Power of the Arts

hollywood_sign

Since I’ve been in MO a ton of things have happened in the entertainment world.  Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson, Ed McMahon & Billy Mays have all passed away.  I actually found out half of these through Twitter and at first thought “this can’t be right”.  I am very sorry to see these entertainers go.  These very talented people will be missed.

Losing great artist and actors always feels weird because you feel connected through their art form.  This made me think about how amazing the power of the arts can be.

The reason the arts are so powerful is because they were created by God.  What amazes me is the amount of churches that have abandoned the arts because they feel it isn’t of God.  This couldn’t be farther from the truth.  It’s just the world has felt the power of the arts and have used them for selfish things so the church has thrown out the baby with the bath water.  I feel it’s time we dive back into the arts head first.  It’s one of the God given gifts that connects us through the human spirit.

Impact Night

Tonight was a great night! Got to see a ton of students fired up for God! The worship band was great & the message was simple. Everything I look for in a youth service. Joe Skiles asked a question that was asked by our 1st general youth director… “To the leaders, where are you”? The youth standing In the room with out thought replied “We are here”!

TTE

Today is the last day of the teen talent expo in Joplin MO… It’s been interesting to say the least. I’ve seen some amazing talent for sure… But what amazes me is how many duplicate acts you see in one day. I’ve also seen 12 seperate Jesus’ kill many demons that looked like the cobra from GI Joe, and even an ol’ time blue grass group!

Disney Resort Construction and Changes

Next I have some pictures of the blue sky preview at California Adventure including a model of one of the cable cars that will be going up and down the newly Remodeled DCA main street.  Lastly you can see that they’ve finished the Mickey’s fun wheel and the progress of the world of color show that looks like it’s nearing completion.

Ventura Trip

Hollywood 101Today I was in Ventura speaking for our Ventura Church.  I have to go through LA to get Ventura which is normally a drag to drive.  But at 8 AM on a Sunday Morning it’s actually really cool.  It was amazing to see the LA Freeway Vacant.  Check out the picture I snapped.  I actually love driving through Hollywood just because of all the cool landmarks along the way.

When I got to Ventura I had a great service and afterwards decided I wanted to eat at Pinks Famous Hot Dog Stand in Downtown Hollywood.  However when I got there I found a line of about 500 hungry people lined up all the way down the street…  The Chili Dog’s there will stick to your ribs for sure…

What’s your favorite Hollywood Landmark?

Magical Wonderment

Tower of TerrorTerry Skiles & Josh JonesSo my buddy Josh Jones isn’t really a Disneyland fan.   My wife, Katie H. and I?… HUGE Disney fans.  The attention to detail and creativity is unmatched.  Josh started off the day not too thrilled with the Disney plan.  But after SPACE MT. something changed, there was a skip in his step and an expression of Magical Wonderment…   He began to even give me advise on how to play the NEW MIDWAY MANIA.  He taught me that accuracy is more important on the Toy Story Shooting Gallery Ride, even if you end up with the lowest score.  He also REALLY ENJOYED Tower of Terror.  I on the other hand forgot I was even on the ride because I was laughing so hard at Josh’s reaction to the 12 story drop!

It was a great day to go!  We didn’t really have to wait in any long lines and the weather was perfect!
